Killa Boombox

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Killa Boombox is the collaboration of DJ So What, Nick Flash and Mukem, three DJ/Producer/Artists with the mission to defy the laws of sound and turn life up to the max. Brain child of DJ So What, Killa Boombox formed naturally through the three’s mutual passion for DJing. After moving from New York to South Florida in 2007, DJ So What linked up with Nick Flash via Myspace back when it was still popular. Sharing similar taste in music, the two bonded immediately and soon began rocking parties together.

At that time, Murkem was a Pro Audio Manager at Guitar Center while building his own production studio. Murkem met Nick Flash there at Guitar Center where he sold him a microphone for his studio. After that, the two became friends and Nick taught him a thing or two about scratching on Technics Turntables. Murkem looked up to Nick and was inspired to start DJing himself. The 1’s and 2’s quickly became second nature to Murkem and in no time he started to catch quite the buzz for himself in the DJ circuit. Nick Flash and Murkem came to the conclusion that their DJ careers couldn’t progress without an online presence, so the two set out to obtain professional camera gear. Acquiring the gear and learning all the technical aspects took years of practice, but also took them many great places along the way working with artists like Steve Aoki, Laidback Luke & Wiz Khalifa.

Each member of Killa Boombox is truly unique and their diversity makes for a “killa” combination. DJ So What has a long history in the EDM and Pop Punk scene, and is well versed in audio engineering and production. He’s played guitar and wrote lyrics for several bands, toured alongside his superstar DJ cousin Alexander Teqnique, and is now a lead guitarist in the group The Romanitx. Nick Flash has an eclectic range of music knowledge and an uncanny ability to foresee trends in pop culture. That, combined with his knack for writing rhymes and catchy hooks lands him a key role in the direction of the group’s flava. Murkem’s leadership abilities and vast knowledge of video production puts him in the directors seat on the visual aspect of Killa Boombox. Having numerous productions under his belt with the likes of Jim Jonsin, Tyler Clinton, Yelawolf and many more. Murkem is now ready to utilize that experience for the group’s own music video ideas. His edgy look and slick rhyme schemes are the perfect compliment to Nick’s clever flows and So What’s explosive beats. Murkem’s skills as a director are just what the crew needs to take their craft to the next level.

The group’s musical influences are vast, and range in a variety of genres from Rock & Roll, Hip Hop, Electronic, and everything in between. As a kid, Nick Flash would memorize and recite Bone Thugs n Harmony songs over and over again. Instead of doing his school work, he’d zone out with his walkman to tapes of his favorite rappers: Slick Rick, Tupac, Warren G and Snoop Dogg. Shortly after high school, he began writing and recording his own raps. Aside from Hip Hop, Nick has a major affinity for the 50’s and all the Doo Wop and Rock & Roll music that originated from that time period. Disco, Funk, R&B, and Soul are among his favorite genres as well; you can hear the strong influence they have on his sound during his live DJ sets.

DJ So What spent a majority of his teenage years in New York City nightclubs where his passion for Electronic music started to take shape. He studied the structure of music and learned to DJ in his spare time. Acts like Daft Punk, Armand Van Helden and Prodigy were among his favorites. Pop Punk bands like New Found Glory, Blink 182, and Brand New also have huge influences on his life, style, and production in the studio. No matter what though, he always finds time for The Beatles and to this day, he still has every single album.

Growing up, Murkem’s parents exposed him to Rock & Roll music wherever they went. His favorite artists included Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Ozbourne, Jimmy Hendrix and Pink Floyd, until one day his uncle came through in a Caddy on Daytons and Vogues bumping Too Short. This opened his eyes to Hip Hop and he immediately fell in love with the new, funky fresh sound. In those days, he found himself having to hide his mix tape collection so his Mom wouldn’t break them because of their explicit content. Nevertheless, Murkem stayed bumping Mac Dre, Outkast, Slick Rick, UGK, as well as alternative bands like Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, The Offspring and Green Day. As a DJ, the Miami club scene broadened his horizons to artists like David Guetta, Steve Aoki, Skrillex and Diplo, leaving him with a new found respect for performing.

As a whole, Killa Boombox is all about getting loud, partying and having fun. Whether it’s a nightclub, a house party, or a day when you’re trapped at work and can’t get out the office, Killa Boombox has a sound that’ll make you forget about your problems and turn up right along with them. Killa Boombox is also all about evolution, and no matter what the popular sound may be at any given time, Killa Boombox will always have records that stay ahead of the curve.

Their stage show is outrageous to say the least, and each party they rock is more out of control than the last. With all three of them being DJ’s, they carefully craft sets that fit any venue, festival, or arena they rock. With Nick Flash and Murkem on the mic emceeing and DJ So What on the decks, expect nothing less than pure energy and mayhem at their show!
